PekoeBrew Wins At The Golden Leaf Awards

PekoeBrew Wins At The Golden Leaf Awards

Published by Kate Patsky on 11th Apr 2017

So we have had some really exciting news here at PekoeBrew HQ. Last week we found out that we won some bling at The Golden Leaf Awards. These awards formed part of the Australian International Tea Expo which was held in Melbourne from March 30 to April 1. The Golden Leaf Awards is the only professional tea competition in Australia. The awards recognise the best tasting teas commercially available in Australia across a wide variety of categories ranging from the more traditional ones of Black, Green, White, Pu’erh and Tisane, to offerings in other categories such as Best Ice Tea, Best Tea Cocktail, Best Tea Website and Best Tea Packaging.

As a relative newcomer to the thriving tea market, having only launched in January this year, we were thrilled to take home five awards. Jason and I were in the U.S at the time of the awards, scoping out opportunities and having a few meetings. We had been keeping an eye on the awards and when we hadn’t heard anything, we assumed that we were unsuccessful. Honestly, we were a little bummed. We had worked really hard on our teas, particularly the Earl Grey & Orange Pekoe, as well as the packaging, and were proud of what we had produced, proud enough to submit into the Golden Leaf Awards.

After we got back from the U.S, we received a note from Sharyn Johnston, founder of the Australian Tea Expo and organiser of the Golden Leaf Awards, asking us to give her a call. We were thinking that there was some kind of follow up like ‘notable effort guys’ or something. We certainly weren’t expecting the results she relayed to us over the phone. We were absolutely blown away to have received the following:

1. Gold medal in the Category of Black Tea: Earl Grey for PekoeBrew Earl Grey

2. Gold medal in the category of Black Tea: Tea Bag Blend for PekoeBrew Earl Grey Biodegradable Pyramid Tea Bags

3. Gold medal in the category of Best Tea Packaging

4. Silver medal in the category of Black Tea: Ceylon for PekoeBrew Orange Pekoe, and a

5. Bronze medal in the Category of White Tea: Single Origin for PekoeBrew Silver Tips

These awards certainly cement the great start that we have had on our tea adventure and we can’t wait for our upcoming trip to Sri Lanka and India where we hope to source some more exciting teas for our future exploits. Be sure to let us know if there are particular teas you would like to see in the future by contacting us here.

Thank you to our family, friends and suppliers who have supported us in our adventure thus far and made the whole PekoeBrew dream a reality for us. Finally, we have to give a massive thank you to Sharyn Johnston for her tireless work in elevating and promoting the specialty tea market both locally and around the globe. Without her, there would be no awards, nor such an arena for tea businesses to promote their products. For a full list of winners, head over to Australian Tea Masters

Here's to many more wonderful tea experiences in the future!
